Eugene M. & Christine E. Lynn Cancer Institute EXCEPTIONAL CANCER CARE IN YOUR COMMUNITY.
The Eugene M. & Christine E. Lynn Cancer Institute is one of Florida’s top 5 largest cancer centers and is accredited as a Comprehensive Cancer Center by the American College of Surgeons. The Lynn Cancer Institute treats more than 3,000 patients each year in facilities such as the Harvey & Phyllis Sandler Pavilion, our new state-of-the-art cancer center. While traditional cancer treatment requires patients to travel from physician to physician and manage their own scheduling, the Sandler Pavilion centralizes services in one location. This simplifies the entire process for our patients, from diagnosis and treatment, to Wellness and Survivorship programs and allows our patients to focus on one thing — recovery.
Understanding Multimodality.
Conquering cancer requires a team approach. For many patients, navigating through referrals, tests, treatments, specialists and office visits can create additional challenges — at a time when life is challenging enough. At Lynn Cancer Institute, we take a different approach. It’s called multimodality care, and it brings the entire medical team to the patient — in one location. Each multimodality team is comprised of physicians and healthcare professionals who specialize in a specific site of cancer such as breast, head and neck, thoracic, urological, gastrointestinal or hepatobiliary including pancreatic cancer. The team is able to develop standards of care for the specific disease site it treats. These standards reflect the most advanced technology and current treatments available, and include new treatment modalities available only through clinical trials. On an initial visit, a patient might meet with a surgeon, medical oncologist, radiation oncologist, a cancer care coordinator and other specialists. The team collaborates on a diagnosis and recommends treatment options. Appointments are scheduled, questions are answered and our patients stay focused on recovery. In the treatment of cancer, time is of the essence. Studies show that the time between diagnosis and the beginning of treatment can directly affect cure rate. Multimodality care at Lynn Cancer Institute can eliminate weeks of waiting for appointments and maximizes the effectiveness of each visit.
Advanced technology. Advancing health.
At Lynn Cancer Institute, several of America’s top radiologists are using some of the most advanced imaging equipment in the world to diagnose cancer. These board certified, fellowship-trained radiologists provide physicians with the most detailed information possible, so patients have a clearer road to recovery. But that’s only the beginning. They’re also training physicians from around the globe, participating in research studies and developing procedures to improve imaging and cancer diagnosis. These nationally renowned radiologists and our advanced imaging technology help set Lynn Cancer Institute apart from any other treatment facility in the region.
Our team is your team.
More than 20 oncology physicians and a full complement of oncology professionals are on staff to serve more than 3,000 patients we see each year in the Lynn Cancer Institute. Our patients receive treatment and services from specialists in genetics, surgery, radiation oncology, medical oncology, pathology and imaging. In addition, our staff includes research nurses, which improve patient access to clinical trials and the most advanced forms of treatment.
Referring physicians stay informed.
At Lynn Cancer Institute, we believe that referring physicians play a key role in patient care — and they become part of our team. When developing an overall treatment plan, it is important to have in-depth knowledge of a patient’s entire medical history. Most often, referring physicians are the best source of this information. In addition, referring physicians are vital to ensure continuity of care — from treatment to recovery and beyond. We keep referring physicians informed throughout a patient’s treatment process. Through a central online database, our physicians can access their patient’s progress and the results of tests and treatments performed at Lynn Cancer Institute and Boca Raton Community Hospital. This makes it easier for physicians to answer questions from their patients and support them beyond recovery.
Emotional support and expert advice.
Lynn Cancer Institute has a team of master level social workers dedicated to oncology that comprise our Psychosocial Team. These specialized counselors have years of experience in assisting cancer patients and families with coping and managing the often complex social and psychological issues that arise from cancer diagnosis and treatment. The team also serves as the liaison connecting the patient and families to resources and agencies available to assist them through their treatment plan.
Our Cancer Care Coordinators are a dedicated team of licensed oncology nurses and social workers that provide guidance and encouragement for our patients as they navigate the cancer care process. They offer support and education through group and individual counseling. Each coordinator can help the patient understand and coordinate all aspects of cancer treatment including rapid diagnosis, education about the specific type of cancer, appointment making and support groups, all while providing emotional encouragement for the patient and family during this difficult time. Nutrition also plays a vital role in cancer treatment and is integrated into our multimodality program. Our clinical dieticians specialize in oncology and are an important member of your team. Your dietician attends the multidisciplinary oncology conferences when your treatment is discussed, and is available for personal consultations with our patients throughout the treatment process. Treatment plans can include pain and symptom management, genetic testing, specialized diagnostic services and a Wellness and Survivorship program.

Our focus is on cancer — and on you.
As one of the largest cancer programs in the state of Florida, Lynn Cancer Institute treats a broad array of diagnoses.
Breast Cancer
Lynn Cancer Institute treats more breast cancer patients than any other center in Palm Beach County. Our team features surgeons, medical oncologists, radiation oncologists, geneticists and mammographers. Physicians travel from around the world to train and learn about our advancements in the treatment of breast cancer. Using our collaborative, multimodality approach, patients are seen by multiple breast cancer subspecialists. A comprehensive conference includes the participation of the breast cancer site team members, as well as pathologists and radiologists. Primary care physicians or other specialists are invited to participate. At the conclusion, a treatment plan and recommendations are presented to the patient and their referring physician. Any additional tests or services are expedited in order to initiate patient care as soon as possible.
Urological Cancer
Our program is for patients seeking treatment for genitourinary cancers including cancer of the prostate, kidney, bladder, testis, adrenal, urethra and penis. Patients may be newly diagnosed, seeking second opinions, facing recurrence of cancer or requiring the level of expertise provided by the Lynn Cancer Institute specialists and our state-of-the-art diagnostic and therapeutic equipment. Our physicians have had fellowship training at leading institutions in GU cancers and bring years of experience. The multidisciplinary approach to the management of genitourinary cancer has significant benefits for our patients. These include a clear presentation of treatment options for the patient to consider, expedited medical imaging and laboratory results, and a shorter time between diagnosis and the initiation of treatment. The program provides patients with evaluations by a urologist, medical oncologist and radiation oncologist in a single visit. All medical records, X-rays and laboratory test results are reviewed and discussed by the physicians and treatment plans customized for each patient. Every treatment plan takes into consideration quality of life issues and how normal body functions may be maintained whenever possible.
Head and Neck Cancer
Treating head and neck cancer requires very specialized care. Our multimodality team for this disease site has developed outstanding treatment plans and uses advanced imaging technology to improve diagnoses and procedures. Our head and neck team works closely with otolaryngologists — head and neck surgeons trained in some of the latest techniques in head and neck surgery. They employ methods and protocols derived from training in some of the country’s most prestigious academic medical centers. From 3D image-guided surgery to cutting-edge trials, our surgeons are on the forefront of the latest technology. Close cooperation between our surgical oncologists and our medical and radiation oncologists has been our standard for years.
Thoracic Cancer
Studies show that surgeons who treat higher volumes of thoracic surgery have better results, and our surgeons are among the area’s most experienced. For years, the physicians at Lynn Cancer Institute have developed specialized treatment plans for patients with this disease site and understand the intricacies involved. We treat all stages and types of thoracic cancer. From more common lung malignancies to more challenging cases, we work individually with each patient, their family members and referring physicians to provide the best quality of care.
Gastrointestinal/Hepatobiliary Cancer
Cancers that form in the lining of the gastrointestinal tract (stomach, small intestine and large intestine) tend to grow slowly and often cause no symptoms in early stages, making prompt detection vital to a full recovery. The advanced imaging equipment and experienced physicians at Lynn Cancer Institute are acutely prepared to treat cancers of the liver, gallbladder, stomach and pancreas.
